What Is a Personal Altar?

A personal altar is whatever you make it to be. It is simply a place where all your pieces are held. What type of pieces, you may ask?

Literally anything.

Your personal altar is all about you. You can include anything you would like. The purpose is to have everything that you love and helps you to relax all in one spot.

This altar should be placed within your safe space. Thus, when you enter this space mentally, you begin to relax and do not have to leave to get the things you love. Whether you use your area for meditation or to read, your altar already carries everything you need to complete those activities without leaving.

For instance, my personal altar has everything I need to perform various types of meditation. I tend to meditate with crystals. It contains my crystal charging stations, crystal zen garden, crystal Baoding balls, selenite sticks specifically for meditation, and tuning forks. This safe spot was created to induce a tranquil area where I can focus on meditation. As soon as I enter my place, my body and mind prepare for my rituals, making it much easier to start.

Suppose you are a person who enjoys reading in their safe zone. In that case, you should look into including various books, a reading light, bookmarks, notepads (if you like to take notes), your favorite pens, fabulous decorative pieces, and more. There is no limit to what you can do with your personal altar! The sole purpose is to create a space catered to you.

Why Pay Attention to Personal Altars?

Personal altars are not absolutely a need. However, the benefits of having one can be clearly observed. Imagine not having to leave your nook once you become completely immersed in your activity. Because everything you could possibly need to be had preemptively been prepared.

All you have to do is physically move into that space. That’s it!

Practicing mindfulness and meditation is more beneficial when there are no interruptions during the activities. You can focus on the present moments without breaks for concentration. Sounds lovely, right?

No matter where you live or the type of life, your personal altar is your safe zone. Easily escape to your spot without much thought, whenever you want, because you made it in advance. It is as amazing as it sounds.

How Do Personal Altars Relate to Holistic Living?

Personal altars relate to holistic living because it helps promote activities that positively impact your ability to live holistically. Holistic living is living in a way that considers every part of your whole being. 5 significant components are interconnected and make up your entire being.

It is your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being. All of these areas are intimately connected. That means if one place of you is not doing well, the other areas will be impacted. If you want to learn more, check out, The Hidden Treasure: Holistic Health. This article will explain this concept in more in-depth.

The altar you set up will help to encourage you to take time for yourself. Whether you choose to do an activity or simply sit in silence in your beautifully decorated area. It does not matter what you do if you have a safe place to unload.

If you don’t know what to do with a personal altar, you can do activities such as:

Find Your Purpose for Your Holistic Living Personal Altar

Before you make your altar, it is vital to figure out the purpose of the altar. If the purpose is to focus on writing, then it would be beneficial to keep your altar stocked with journals, activity books, pens, and anything else you need to complete those tasks. Focus on decorations that can help relax and inspire you in that sense.

Once you find your purpose, try creating some intentions for your space. These intentions will help to keep you on track with the purpose of your safe place.

Your altar does not need to take up a lot of space. It could be in the corner of a room or on a window sill. Anywhere! I actually have two that serve different purposes. One of them is in my bedroom along a portion of a wall. It contains a shelf that holds my precious pieces and a comfy area to sit with pillows. The other is my reading nook, which is tucked away in the corner of the living room. I have a shelf with books, a reading light, bookmarks, a couple of pens, a notebook, and some plants for optimal relaxation. I love my safe zones.

There is no limit to creativity!
